Benefits of using Vitamin C serum

Benefits of using Vitamin C serum

Vitamin C is one of the best-studied ingredients in skincare, with a wealth of independent research confirming its impressive benefits. Studies show that it helps brighten the complexion, reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and supports overall skin health.

Boosting Collagen

One of the most exciting things about vitamin C is that it helps your skin make more collagen the protein that keeps skin firm and bouncy. Your skin needs vitamin C to build and strengthen collagen properly.

Vitamin C also helps protect the collagen you already have by blocking an enzyme (called MMP-1) that breaks it down. This means it not only helps create fresh collagen but also keeps your skin’s structure strong for longer.

It can even help skin heal faster, which is why it’s often recommended after treatments like fractional laser. Plus, it may help reduce unwanted pigmentation during the healing process.

Reducing Pigmentation

If you deal with dark spots, sunspots, melasma, or marks left behind by acne, vitamin C can be a big help. It works by slowing down the process that makes melanin the pigment that causes those dark marks. Over time, this leads to a more even, radiant skin tone.

Sun Protection Support

Vitamin C doesn’t work like sunscreen, but it adds extra protection for your skin. When UV rays hit your skin, they create free radicals, damaging molecules that break down skin cells and speed up aging.

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that neutralizes these free radicals before they can cause harm. It also penetrates the skin well, so it can protect where your skin needs it most.

When to Use Vitamin C

You can use vitamin C in the morning or at night. Using it in the morning gives you extra antioxidant protection during the day and works even better when paired with sunscreen.

It’s a myth that vitamin C makes your skin more sensitive to the sun. In fact, it can help reduce UV sensitivity, making it a great choice for daytime use.

Types of vitamin C

L-Ascorbic acid is the most common and cheap form of vitamin C, but it has a few drawbacks. Because it’s water-soluble and unstable, it doesn’t absorb easily into the skin. Your skin’s outer layer is rich in fatty acids, which makes it harder for L-ascorbic acid (a “charged” molecule) to get through.

That’s why products with L-ascorbic acid usually have a low pH (below 3.5). This acidic environment helps make it more stable and easier to absorb but the downside is that it can sometimes irritate sensitive skin.

vitamin C in the form of ascorbic acid (specifically L-ascorbic acid) oxidises easily. This is when it decomposes change colour and turns into several other substances that likely have much less benefits for skin

THD Ascorbate is fat-soluble

That’s what makes it so special compared to L-ascorbic acid because it’s fat-soluble, it can penetrate through the skin’s lipid (fatty) barrier more easily, delivering vitamin C benefits deeper into the skin while staying gentle, making it the best option for sensitive skin.

We use THD Ascorbate as the star ingredient in our Elixir Vitamin C Serum.

Our formula contains 10% THD Ascorbate blended with carefully chosen natural, organic ingredients including cold-pressed hemp, passion fruit, and pomegranate seed oils, plus powerful plant extracts.

We tested our serum on a group of people, and the results were incredible we saw a significant reduction in inflammation and up to 80% improvement in skin moisturisation."
